About Three Threes

Three Threes are proud manufacturers of a quality range of condiments including spreads, pickled vegetables and sauces. They also manufacture quality “home brand” products for ALDI and Coles supermarkets.

The story of Three Threes began over 100 years ago with a tram conductor by the name of Stanley McAlpine. You may not have heard much about Stanley through the years, but you would no doubt have heard the name Bert Appleroth, the founder of Aeroplane Jelly, who was one of Stanley’s workmates. Unlike Aeroplane Jelly, Three Threes has stood the test of time and to this day remains 100% Australian owned and is still run by the McAlpine family.

Stanley and his wife Winfred produced the first batches of pickles, jams, sauces and chutneys in their family kitchen back in 1919, and sold them to shop owners from a horse and cart. These first products were so popular that bigger premises were soon required and production was moved to a factory in the suburb of Woollahra, NSW. Stanley registered the 333 (Three Threes) trademark in 1920.

Popularity continued to explode, prompting another move in 1927 to a much larger factory located in Darlington, NSW. In the same year, Stanley’s son Cecil joined the business to assist with the expanding operations.

It was soon evident that another move was required for further expansion, and yet another move in 1955 with the purchase of a property and building a new plant in Lidcombe, NSW.
This plant has remained our factory location for the last 65 years.

1955 also saw Cecil’s son Ronald McAlpine join the family business. Ron studied Food Technology at Hawkesbury Agriculture College and became a very important member with the advancement of production and product stability.

The following years saw Three Threes grow from strength to strength with more family members joining the business to continue developing and expanding on the quality products we now enjoy today.

Three Threes is now one of the oldest Australian, family-owned food production companies and is currently managed by Michael McAlpine, a 4th generation family member together with his wife Justine and their son Timothy being 5th generation to continue the legacy.

You can now find the fine products from Three Threes on all major and independent supermarket shelves nationwide as well as a constantly growing export market.
